In this Economy, It's "Survival of the Fittest"-- Save $350 When You & a Colleague Sign Up for the Same Short Course!*
Quickly expand your knowledge base and skills-- improve your on-the-job performance and overall marketability. Learn about an area of drug discovery outside your expertise, or get up to date on your current area of focus--all in a single day. In these uncertain economic times, it literally pays to be on the leading edge of your field, able to multitask as needed. Select the short course that will take you to the next level: Hone your skills; become more flexible; and learn more about the latest technologies in drug discovery, including HCS, in vitro ADME, label-free systems, more...

PS: Can't attend the entire SBS conference? No problem, you can still attend a short course. All short courses will be held on Sunday, April 26 from 8:30am – 5:00pm.

*The $350 is taken off of the 2nd registration. To take advantage of this special discount, contact Teri Barton at tbarton@sbsonline.org

SBS Partners with Naturejobs to Provide Career Roundtables at SBS 2009
Career Central at the SBS 15th Annual Conference & Exhibition in Lille will feature scientific roundtable discussions organized by Naturejobs.  Take advantage of this opportunity to meet with senior representatives from industry and academia in an informal setting.  The roundtables will be held in the Exhibit Hall on Tuesday, April 28th.

Reminder – SBS is offering free admission to the Exhibit Hall in Lille.

Poster Authors: Deadline Approaching
Here’s a friendly reminder that the deadline to submit your poster abstract(s) for the 15th Annual Conference & Exhibition is less than three weeks away. Your poster abstract must be in by March 3rd, 2009 for inclusion in the Poster Guide that will be handed out on site. Remember, in order to present your poster, you must be officially registered for the conference.

Search and You Shall Find…
The SBS 15th Annual Conference & Exhibition web site now offers multiple ways to access the scientific abstracts that may impact your research.  Search by day, track, title or author.  Discover the great science in store for you by starting your abstract search today.

New Virtual Courses Launching
The first course of the year is ready to launch on March 18, 2008,  Enzymology in Drug Discovery. The course will run in 4 modules on consecutive Tuesdays  at 11:00 EST US as follows:

March 18: Enzymes as Drug Targets and Actions of Inhibitors, by Paul England

March 25: Measurement of Enzyme: Inhibitor Interactions, by Peter Lowe

April 1: Practical Kinetics for Elucidating Enzyme Mechanisms in Drug Discovery, Part 1, by Thomas Meek

April 8: Practical Kinetics for Elucidating Enzyme Mechanisms in Drug Discovery, Part 2, by Thomas Meek

What will you learn?

This course will provide an introduction to enzymes and their kinetics, and how these should be applied in drug discovery.  The emphasis will be on practical applications, with theoretical and mathematical concepts only being introduced in the context of real examples.  Participants will learn how to design enzyme assays to detect those interactions which are relevant to the actions of drugs in therapeutic settings, how to interpret kinetic and binding data appropriately, and how to investigate the mechanisms of enzyme inhibition.  The level of mathematics required for the course will be kept to a minimum.

At the end of the course, participants should be able to design, run and interpret enzyme assays correctly, and produce reliable data which can be used to guide further lead optimization and candidate selection.  The course would also be valuable for medicinal chemists who are working with enzyme targets and wish to understand in more detail the data being produced in enzyme assays.

Each module will begin at 11:00 AM EST (North America) and run approximately 90 to 120 minutes
